How to Get Relief from Foot Pain?
Are you wondering how to get relief from foot pain? While the underlying causes of some foot pain can be serious, there are some conditions that are fairly common, and the pain can be alleviated at home with a few simple steps. Our podiatrist explains more here.
Possible Foot Problems
Sometimes foot pain is easily treated at home. A few common foot problems that don’t require immediate medical attention, such as aching feet or an overextended muscle, can be relieved with some rest and at-home care. As long as the pain is not severe or debilitating, the below steps may be helpful.
Steps For Relief
At-home care for an overextended muscle or mild heel pain includes rest, ice, compression, and elevation. Wrap your foot with a compression bandage, apply ice and elevate your foot, and simply rest. Try to keep weight off of your foot as much as possible. Anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen can be used to relieve pain as well.
Additionally, massaging your feet and soaking them in an Epsom salt foot bath for 30 minutes can help with aching.
When To Schedule An Appointment
If you have any of the following symptoms, you should make an appointment immediately:
- Cuts or sores
- Suspected sprains or fractures
- Redness and excessive welling
- Severe heel pain
- Tingling or numbness
These can be symptoms of foot problems that need to be addressed by our podiatrist. Additionally, if you have diabetes, you should pay close attention to your foot health as the complications of a foot injury can be more serious. If you have injured, sprained, or think you may have broken your foot, call us immediately for an evaluation.
