Bunion Surgeon in Dallas, TX, Expert Explains Bunion Surgery

bunion surgeon in dallas txBunions can be extremely painful and get in the way of your everyday life. You may have recurring bunions, and surgery can help in alleviating the tension, pain, and possibly the cause of your bunions. Our bunion surgeon in Dallas, TX, explains more about bunion surgery below.

What Are Bunions?

Bunions are painful bumps that form on the joint of the big toe. They are generally caused by the inherent structure of your toe joint and wearing shoes that are too tight. Bunions cause swelling, redness, pain, and calluses around the affected joint.

Bunion Removal

Surgery can be performed to remove a bunion. The goal of the surgery is to remove the pressure on the joint and restore proper foot alignment. There are a few different methods for bunion surgery, depending on the root cause of the bunion:

  • Tendon repair. If the cause of the bunion is tight ligaments or tendons, these can be loosened to relieve tension.
  • Exostectomy. This simply means removing the bony bump from the outside of the joint.
  • Osteotomy. This involves using plates and wires to hold the toe straight and prevent further bunions from forming.

Our podiatrist will determine which option is best for you.

Aftercare & Prevention

After surgery, it is recommended that you rest, ice, and elevate your foot. It may also be beneficial to wear a surgical boot until your toe has fully healed. In certain cases, physical therapy may be recommended for rehabilitation exercises for recovery.

It can be difficult to prevent bunions. However, if you are prone to developing bunions, there are measures you can take to avoid making them worse or having them return. Wear shoes with a wide toe box to ensure there is plenty of room for your feet to move as you walk.

The staff at Dallas Podiatry Works could not have been more courteous, helpful, and professional in doing their job. They made me feel comfortable when I was there, which is certainly appreciated. They answered all the questions that I had and just made each visit the most pleasurable that it could be. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing this type of foot care.

I would highly recommend Dr. Brook to anyone with foot problems–especially problems that stump other podiatrists. He really is very caring and very knowledgeable.

Dr. Joel Brook and the staff were nice and helpful. Though I was a new patient, I got right in as soon as they were open in my preferred location. They diagnosed the problem and provided medicines along with a perfect gel bandage so I could keep exercising while my toes healed. My toes already hurt less and look a little better each day. If I have future issues, I will be a repeat customer. Here’s hoping I don’t, but at least I know my feet are in good hands.

I visited this office for an ingrown toe nail a few years ago. After seeing another doctor, who made it worse, he referred me to Dallas Podiatry Works. The doctor there was able to fix my problem. I’m not great with reviews, all I can tell you is that this doctor and staff will have you up and running or doing whatever it is you do in no time. You will be in great hands. You’d be a fool not to use this doctor. Now its time to visit him again for the other toe.
