Simple Stretches for Heel Pain Relief

Simple Stretches for Heel Pain Relief dallas podiatristThe Dallas Running Club has come a long way since its founding in 1969, the year of the first Dallas Turkey Trot. The camaraderie and commitment to physical fitness is very motivational! If you are an avid runner and find yourself experiencing heel pain from logging miles on the streets or trails, you could benefit from stretching exercises. Let’s look at a couple that might be just what you need!

When you have heel pain, you can use simple stretches to loosen the affected connective tissue that is causing the problem. A couple of stretches that are particularly beneficial include:

  • Calf Stretch – Stand about one foot from a wall, placing both hands on the wall at a little lower than shoulder level. Step back with your right foot, keeping the leg straight and placing the foot flat on the floor. Bend your left knee and press against the wall with your hands until there is a gentle stretch in the back of your leg. Hold for 20-30 seconds and then switch legs.
  • Towel Curl – Take off your shoes and socks, lay a towel flat on the ground in front of a chair, and sit down. Place your heels at the edge of the towel closest to you and then use the toes of your right foot to grip the towel and pull it back to you (at the same time, using your left heel to “anchor” the towel). Repeat until the entire towel is under your foot. Then smooth it back out and repeat the process with your left foot.
  • Take a look at our video on stretching: https://www.dallaspodiatryworks.com/how-to-correctly-stretch-your-lower-extremities/

In addition to stretching, you may find that relaxing in a bath with warm water and Epsom salts provides the relaxation and relief you need to tame your physical pain.

Stretches can provide heel pain relief, but don’t forget to schedule your appointment and come in for an accurate diagnosis. Our expert foot doctors at Dallas Podiatry Works will assess your specific condition and ensure that your condition is thoroughly treated. You might benefit from an array of other treatment methods and we will work hard to ensure that your pain is put behind you. Schedule your appointment with either our Dallas or Plano, TX offices by using our online form or calling us today at 972.853.7100.

The doctor has great “bedside manners” when talking to patients. Great staff and comfortable atmosphere.

The staff at Dallas Podiatry Works could not have been more courteous, helpful, and professional in doing their job. They made me feel comfortable when I was there, which is certainly appreciated. They answered all the questions that I had and just made each visit the most pleasurable that it could be. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing this type of foot care.

I would highly recommend Dr. Brook to anyone with foot problems–especially problems that stump other podiatrists. He really is very caring and very knowledgeable.

Dr. Joel Brook and the staff were nice and helpful. Though I was a new patient, I got right in as soon as they were open in my preferred location. They diagnosed the problem and provided medicines along with a perfect gel bandage so I could keep exercising while my toes healed. My toes already hurt less and look a little better each day. If I have future issues, I will be a repeat customer. Here’s hoping I don’t, but at least I know my feet are in good hands.

I visited this office for an ingrown toe nail a few years ago. After seeing another doctor, who made it worse, he referred me to Dallas Podiatry Works. The doctor there was able to fix my problem. I’m not great with reviews, all I can tell you is that this doctor and staff will have you up and running or doing whatever it is you do in no time. You will be in great hands. You’d be a fool not to use this doctor. Now its time to visit him again for the other toe.
