Bunion Treatment

How painful is it to fix my bunion?

Pain after bunion surgery varies from patient to patient, but most often it is less painful than what is anticipated. 80% or more of our patients cease using pain medication 3-4 days after surgery. We employ the use of the OnQ Painbuster pain pump to minimize post operative discomfort for many bunion repair procedures.

How Soon Will I be Able to Walk After Bunion Surgery?

Depending on the severity of your bunion there are many surgical procedures available. With each procedure the goal is to realign the joint, relieve the pain and discomfort, and correct the deformity. Each type of specific procedure to correct a bunion comes with different healing times. Around 80% of our patients stop taking pain medication […]

Is it necessary for me to keep my foot dry after surgery until the stitches are removed?

No, most often we let you shower and change your own bandages after your first post-op visit. In the past we recommended patients keep the surgery site dry to avoid risk of infection—even clean water can carry contaminants. According to a recent study in the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery involving more than 2,000 […]

My big toe hurts – what is causing it?

Many different problems could cause big toe pain. If you have a hard bulge at the base of your toe, you may have a bunion. If the toe is stiff and moving it is uncomfortable, you may have arthritis. Sharp pain after an injury could be a fracture or a sprain, like turf toe. Sudden […]

When Can I Put Pressure Back on My Foot After Surgery?

The structure of bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves within the foot is complex; an injury to even one area can make it difficult to move around. Foot surgery, whether to restore function, fix a deformity, or repair damage after an injury, can be traumatic to the foot. Following the proper post-operative instructions is crucial […]

What is the Recovery Time After Foot Surgery?

It is important to know the recommended procedures and typical recovery time for foot surgery before you even go into the operation. This will help you be able to plan accordingly for post-operation care. You may require a nerve-blocking procedure prior to your surgery. This will likely leave your foot numb afterwards which can last […]

The doctor has great “bedside manners” when talking to patients. Great staff and comfortable atmosphere.

The staff at Dallas Podiatry Works could not have been more courteous, helpful, and professional in doing their job. They made me feel comfortable when I was there, which is certainly appreciated. They answered all the questions that I had and just made each visit the most pleasurable that it could be. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing this type of foot care.

I would highly recommend Dr. Brook to anyone with foot problems–especially problems that stump other podiatrists. He really is very caring and very knowledgeable.

Dr. Joel Brook and the staff were nice and helpful. Though I was a new patient, I got right in as soon as they were open in my preferred location. They diagnosed the problem and provided medicines along with a perfect gel bandage so I could keep exercising while my toes healed. My toes already hurt less and look a little better each day. If I have future issues, I will be a repeat customer. Here’s hoping I don’t, but at least I know my feet are in good hands.

I visited this office for an ingrown toe nail a few years ago. After seeing another doctor, who made it worse, he referred me to Dallas Podiatry Works. The doctor there was able to fix my problem. I’m not great with reviews, all I can tell you is that this doctor and staff will have you up and running or doing whatever it is you do in no time. You will be in great hands. You’d be a fool not to use this doctor. Now its time to visit him again for the other toe.
