Common Foot Issues & At-Home Solutions from Our Bunion Surgeon in Dallas, TX

bunion surgeon in dallas txIt’s always preferable to see a podiatrist if you’re having foot problems. However, there are some common foot issues that can be cared for at home. Our bunion surgeon in Dallas, TX, has provided a list of some common foot problems that you can take care of with simple, at-home solutions.

#1: Foot Cramps

Foot cramps may be caused by many factors including overwork, muscle fatigue, dehydration, or vitamin deficiency. First, try soaking your feet in a warm Epsom salt foot bath to relax and relieve muscle fatigue.

Many cases of muscle cramps are caused by dehydration or electrolyte imbalance. You can try drinking a sports drink with electrolytes to rehydrate and balance your sodium and magnesium levels.

Another solution is to target a possible vitamin deficiency. Lack of potassium can cause muscle cramps, so try eating a potassium-rich banana and take a multivitamin to guarantee proper vitamin intake.

#2: Itchy or Peeling Feet

These issues could be a reaction to certain products or chemicals. Our bunion surgeon in Dallas, TX, suggests that you discontinue use of any new products, lotions or creams and see if the problem disappears. You can then slowly reintroduce the products to identify the cause.

If discontinuing your products doesn’t solve the problem, consider that itching and peeling are symptoms of Athlete’s foot and dermatitis. You can purchase over-the-counter creams, powders and sprays to improve these conditions. Wearing moisture wicking socks is recommended as moist environments can worsen the symptoms.

#3: Yellow Toenails

Discolored toenails can be caused by nail polish or a fungal infection. Try going without nail polish for a while or use a clear base and see if your symptoms resolve. If not, consider that it may be a fungal problem.

Keep in mind that on top of discoloration, fungal infections generally cause the nails to become ragged and brittle. Over-the-counter creams can be effective at treating fungal infections.

The doctor has great “bedside manners” when talking to patients. Great staff and comfortable atmosphere.

The staff at Dallas Podiatry Works could not have been more courteous, helpful, and professional in doing their job. They made me feel comfortable when I was there, which is certainly appreciated. They answered all the questions that I had and just made each visit the most pleasurable that it could be. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing this type of foot care.

I would highly recommend Dr. Brook to anyone with foot problems–especially problems that stump other podiatrists. He really is very caring and very knowledgeable.

Dr. Joel Brook and the staff were nice and helpful. Though I was a new patient, I got right in as soon as they were open in my preferred location. They diagnosed the problem and provided medicines along with a perfect gel bandage so I could keep exercising while my toes healed. My toes already hurt less and look a little better each day. If I have future issues, I will be a repeat customer. Here’s hoping I don’t, but at least I know my feet are in good hands.

I visited this office for an ingrown toe nail a few years ago. After seeing another doctor, who made it worse, he referred me to Dallas Podiatry Works. The doctor there was able to fix my problem. I’m not great with reviews, all I can tell you is that this doctor and staff will have you up and running or doing whatever it is you do in no time. You will be in great hands. You’d be a fool not to use this doctor. Now its time to visit him again for the other toe.
