Are You Dealing with Red, Itchy Skin on your Feet?
Athlete’s foot is a very common foot problem but one that can be painful and embarrassing to deal with. This common fungal infection can happen to anyone, but you can take some valuable steps and avoid Athlete’s foot this summer.
Dallas and Plano, TX, foot specialists, Drs. Joel Brook, Arroyo, and McClurkin offer some easy tips to help you steer clear of a red, itchy and stinging foot infection:
Keep your feet dry – Athlete’s foot usually starts in the skin between your toes. The fungi that cause the infection thrive in damp, close environments making it very important to keep feet clean and dry. After swimming or bathing, dry your feet well, especially between your toes.
Go natural – Opt for shoes made of natural materials that will draw moisture away from your feet.
Change it up – Alternate your shoes to give them a chance to dry out and change socks every day.
Protect your feet – Athlete’s foot is contagious and can be spread on with contact on contaminated surfaces. Always wear sandals or shower shoes in showers, locker rooms, pool decks and other public areas. Don’t share your shoes with other people and avoid siblings passing down shoes for this reason.
Use a powder – An antifungal powder used daily can help keep an infection from starting.
