Q
What is Raynaud’s Disease?

A

How to fix cold, numb feetRaynaud’s disease is a rare disorder that can cause your toes to become abnormally cold in response to emotional stress or low temperatures. When the disease attacks, the skin in your impacted areas may change colors. Initially, your cold toes might turn white, then blue as numbness sets in. Affected areas can later turn red, accompanied by a throbbing or tingling sensation, as circulation improves. If you are experiencing these symptoms, it is likely that you have Raynaud’s syndrome.

The reason this happens is that your body experiences a narrowing of blood vessels, known as vasospasm. This ailment is not particularly disabling in and of itself, but if you suffer from a severe case you could end up developing an infection in the affected toes. Then it is important to come in to Dallas Podiatry Works, as there are various medications we can prescribe to treat this condition. Dr. Joel W. Brook and Dr. David R. Northcutt are here to help with any foot and ankle issues you may experience, including Raynaud’s disease.
