How can I give myself a safe pedicure at home?

Pedicure safety is very important for the health of your feet. Giving yourself a pedicure at home can risk an infection if not done correctly. A few basic pedicure tips can help you prevent significant complications from your pampering.

Clip your toenails straight across, so you leave the edges intact. This helps prevent ingrown toenails. Don’t clip your cuticles at all, since they help protect you from infections. Use a pumice stone very gently to smooth out your calluses after you’ve washed your feet and ankles. Apply moisturizer to your skin and your nails. Always disinfect your pedicure tools after using them.

If you have diabetes, doing your own pedicure is a bad idea. Your feet have an increased risk for infections and damage. Instead, request an appointment with Dallas Podiatry Works to take care of your nails and calluses safely. You can request more information or an appointment online, or call either of our two offices: (972) 566-7474 in Dallas and (972) 943-3323 in Plano,TX.
