Picking the Right Running Shoes for Your Feet

If you’re a runner who wants to train with fellow running enthusiasts, you need look no further than the Dallas Running Club. This wonderful organization is committed to uniting runners of all abilities—so don’t feel as though you’re “not fast enough” to join—and encouraging participation in all types of running events. It is certainly worth at least considering, whether you are just starting out or have been running for years.

Of course, an important consideration for all runners, whether you belong to a group or not, is knowing how to pick the right running shoes. The footwear you choose makes a profound difference in the health and safety your lower limbs. With this in mind, here are some tips to help you make the best choices with your running shoe shopping:

  • Shoe Shopping for RunnersShop later in the day. You might not be aware of this, but your feet swell throughout the day. As such, a pair that just barely fits first thing in the morning will be tight by 4:00 in the afternoon. Go shoe shopping in the late afternoon or early evening for best fit.
  • Go to a specialty store. Stores that cater specifically to runners have knowledgeable staff members who can answer questions and provide helpful advice.
  • Be picky. When it comes to running shoes, you need ones that have ample cushioning and robust arch support to prevent injuries. Do not settle for anything less than comfortable shoes that provide solid support.
  • Find a perfect fit. Shoes that are either too tight or too loose can both cause issues for your feet. So start by putting on the socks you will wear running and then find a pair that has some room in the front (wide enough for toes to wiggle, a little room between the front and your longest toe) and firmly cradles your heel when laced up tightly. Also, you should be able to slide your index finger down to the second knuckle in the back.
