Downtown Plano, TX is in the midst of an urban renaissance and we keep hearing good things about the experiences people are having there. The area is host to a variety of live music and dining options that are perfect for either nights out with friends or a romantic date night with your sweetie. Don’t let a foot cramp ruin your experience, though!

Don't let foot pain keep you from enjoying your night out

When you are going to spend a lot of time on your feet in downtown Plano, you should know what to do if you get a charley horse in your foot. The best practice is to try and prevent the condition from a happening in the first place. Preventative measures for cramps include:

  • Stretching – It may seem silly to stretch when you aren’t goingto be exercising, but keep in mind that walking around all day is still physical activity. Spend a little time doing some foot stretches before you leave the house and you will decrease the odds of cramping.
  • Hydrate – A common cause of cramps is dehydration, so make sure you drink enough water before you head out. Having a cup or two of water before heading out—and then having a little more at intervals throughout the day or evening—will certainly help.
  • Diet – Eating foods like bananas, yogurt, low-fat cheese, and veggies will provide the right nutrients, especially magnesium and calcium, to keep cramps at bay.

If a foot cramp strikes while you are out, you can begin treatment right away and have results in minutes. Start by taking a minute to sit down and massage the affected foot. Follow this by stretching it out a bit. You don’t have to stretch for an extended period of time, because getting back to walking and moving around will help.

Ice, if available, will help alleviate severe foot cramping issues. When you get home, you may want to soak your foot in an Epsom salt bath for further relief.
